Grande Provence Estate Featured

Grande Provence Heritage Wine Estate wears her 300-year history with style. Nestled within the Franschhoek Valley in the Western Cape, surrounded by 47-acres of lush vines, this is heartland South African wine country at its finest. The Estate is home to Grande Provence's award-winning wines and its passionate wine making team. Following harvest every year, carefully selected wines leave the Estate to compete in some of the world's most prestigious competitions, the number and frequency of the awards bears testament to their success. A sophisticated destination in its own right, Grande Provence proudly presents superb cuisine at The Restaurant, fine wines at The Tasting Room, some of South Africa's finest art at The Gallery & The Shop, receptions and boutique conferences at The Jonkershuis and 5-star accommodation at The Owners Cottage. The Owners Cottage at Grande Provence is a testament to period grandeur and contemporary luxury. Comprising the beautifully appointed Cottage are four rooms, a deluxe suite, conservatory, lounge, swimming and spa pool area. Blanketed in a palette of charcoal grey and white linen, the rooms beckon an indulgent experience. "Even though the rooms are homely, they also house discreet technology," says Virginia Fisher, New Zealand-based interior designer. "Lush lawns edged with dark green hedges contrast with creamy travertine tiles and inset pebbles, while white walls delineate the deck chairs and lounging areas, juxtaposing the cool and crisp swimming pool. The spa pool punctuates the landscape with a stunning, elevated view of the surrounds. Harmony permeates every angle." The wines are created using classic cultivars of the highest quality. The distinctive vintages that are produced reflect the passion and enthusiasm of the wine-making team at Grande Provence. The Estate's first flagship wine, The Grande Provence 2004, was launched in October 2007. The Grande Provence range consists of The Grande Provence, Pinot Noir, Chenin Blanc/Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. While the 18th Century Manor House and The Owners Cottage reflect their Huguenot heritage, The Restaurant and wine-tasting area of Grande Provence project a chic industrial presence. Steel joinery, galvanised metals and skylights distinguish this design approach. Interior Designer Virginia Fisher explains, "In essence, Grande Provence is an estate of senses, providing guests with a full working farm experience, with spaces to be used and spaces to be admired, and these expanses of space allow us to do that. The two design styles are harmonised by a complementary palette, but time separates them."
